I don’t mean to be so sad lately, in fact I don’t know if sadness is really the emotion I’m experiencing. I think I ought to confront the issues at hand and start anew. I think that’s what I need. I need to start taking care of myself and expect everyone else to. I probably sound needy- I’m not trying to be, but maybe if you offered your hand I’d take it. I’m unhappy and that is for certain, I could burst into tears and dry them off in an instant, I don’t want to be here.

Now- To walk back to my bike which is stuck under a broken lock in a gitchy town nearby. I’ll ride the trail all the way through and maybe i’ll turn my phone off. In fact, I could just leave it at home and It would be of no trouble to anyone at all.

I spent most of my day on a bike hating myself for not wearing pants as I spent my evening by the river in Riverside- which by the way was pleasant- until I saw a strong man with a rope around his arms hop off a truck and stare intently at my sweaty face. Needless to say, I spent the rest of the night with my dog, a crochet needle and yarn.

hmph.

I was going to go to SAIC, but they only offered me $2,000 in financial aid. Which I'm sure you know is virtually nothing. How did you end up with such a good offer? That's not meant to insult your talent, just curious as to what worked for you.

Oh no, really? That’s bull! SAIC is mad expensive and that doesn’t even begin to cover the cost.

Basically I went to all the SAIC portfolio reviews. I brought my laptop which contained my interactive portfolio, and thus- began expressing my work through a thorough statement and verbal commentary for most, if not all pieces. (have you ever attended a portfolio review? hopefully they have one in your city, they are very helpful!) The interview went really well and I received an automatic acceptance to the school. (sweet!) I then attended every SAIC event, and even went in for yet another portfolio review (for progress criticism, the guy then encouraged me to apply for a scholarship) after my tour at the school. (Note- whenever you go to an SAIC event, they take down your information, the more you go, the more they know of you and your serious interest in the school) By the time I came to the most recent event, the woman who was actually head of the admissions knew who I was.

I sent in all my application requirements and simply waited. I have been working on a cohesive concept for the past few years and I believe that having a strong conceptualization will be beneficial to you, and will definitely stand out to whoever is looking at your work. (as opposed to let’s say- I drew pictures of my dog) Having a high GPA at SVA was also really helpful, I know for a fact that if I applied after high school that I’d never get the presidential merit, considering I barely passed lol.

and FINALLY-

after I got the scholarships, I realized that I was still unable to afford the school. so I called SAIC in tears (lol oh god) and the lady was super nice! we did the math together and I told her about the situation at home, my financial standing, and my fafsa information that didn’t process at the time. Being an Illinois resident helped as well, they forgot to implement that grant.

OK finally, after the conversation, she called me back the next day and they had raised all my awards, including the presidential merit scholarship!

I highly highly recommend calling the financial aid department and asking why you received such a low amount. I hope that wasn’t overbearing!!I wish the best for you, please let me know if anything changes, and congrats on the acceptance!

I guess I’ll go ride my bike now and pretend that’s not on my mind
